LOCAL SIDEWALK RESTORATION CITYWIDE
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) was an implemented Service Request Center for DC residents and businesses to request repair services for local streets, alleys, and sidewalks including curb and gutter. With this contract, DDOT’s goal was to make DC a city where any trip can be taken on foot safely and comfortably, and where roadways equally serve pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists.
Fort Myer was responsible for the rehabilitation of sidewalks that included: curb and gutter, curb/wheelchair ramps, driveways and alley entrances at various local DC locations, as directed by DDOT, through task orders issued during this 5 year option contract term.
Project Significance
Two of the key initiatives of the Service Request Center is to prevent the possibility of injury to the public due to inadequate sidewalks and to construct wheelchair and bicycle ramps to meet the regulations established by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Many of these wheelchair ramps are constructed in areas that were previously not handicap accessible.
This was the largest IDIQ contract Fort Myer’s with DDOT which was sustained by 13-15 crews that included subcontractors on a weekly basis.
