Street & Highway

street and highway

For 40 years and counting, we continue to build and maintain streets and highways throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. City roads, neighborhood alleys, avenues fronting national monuments, and major stretches of state and federal highways are regularly cared for and meticulously renovated by Fort Myer’s capable and experienced crews.

With experience in multiple core segments of the transportation industry, we specialize in earthwork, utility relocation, drainage, concrete structures, paving, bridges, electrical work, streetcar track work, as well as manufacturing and placing high-quality asphalt.
In addition to our highly trained staff, which can provide accelerated mobilization, we have a vast inventory of standard and unique material, like granite curb, regularly stocked for quick response and emergency needs.

Representative Projects

This section of Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) is severely congested in both directions during the morning and evening rush. Widening and upgrading intersections will help relieve congestion and improve air quality, road operation, and safety. In 2011, Route 7 carried 60,000 vehicles per day in this area and by 2034, is expected to carry 87,000 vehicles per day. The project widens Route 7 from four to six lanes with a raised median . . .

Constitution Avenue Rehabilitation

This project involved the rehabilitation of Constitution Avenue, NW from 15th Street to 23rd Street. Construction included replacement of pavement, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and lighting. The 12 blocks of the 8-lane thoroughfare were rehabilitated block by block. The old concrete-based roadway was removed, replaced, and covered with new asphalt. The new sidewalks are exposed aggregate sidewalks. New concrete bus pads were built, storm water drainage was installed, dying trees were removed and replaced with new landscaping, new striping was applied to the roadway, and the traffic signalization and street lighting was upgraded with new wiring, fixtures, and lamps.
