LARGE VALVE REPLACEMENT #12
DC Water has established a Capitol Improvement Project that upgraded the watermain infrastructure and distribution system by targeting strategic areas of concern. This project improved the infrastructure and increase reliability of water distribution in the DC area.
Fort Myer was responsible for eight (8) large valve replacements including various fittings and appurtenances at various DC locations. This work consisted of replacing 12 inch to 30 inch gate and butterfly valves, various 6 inch air and drain blowoff assemblies, installation of pre-cast manholes, and roadway restoration which included nearly 6,000 square yards of asphalt surface mill and overlay.
Project Significance
This project improved the water infrastructure which allows the flow of water to effectively be distributed to DC’s homes and businesses. These new valves enable DC Water to reliably redirect water in the event of a water main break or to isolate the water mains if necessary.
On this project, FMCC was able to work with both DDOT and DC Water to complete the project, to further our goals of environmental stewardship, and play a vital role in improving our community.
