HEARST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SITE WORK
The modernization of Hearst Elementary School consists of the renovation of the existing school building and construction of two new building additions which both have green roofs. Turner Construction led this design-build project for DC Department of General Services (DGS) and FMCC was a subcontractor handling site work and site utilities including low impact development components. FMCC completed 8 bioretention pond systems, demolished and removed existing tennis courts, and built all storm drain systems. Our team handled erosion and sediment controls including tree and root protection. We also furnished and installed electrical duct banks, PEPCO approved transformer vault with removal roof and access manhole, and telephone duct bank. Site concrete, paving work, and line striping in the parking lot were also provided.
Project Significance
This project demonstrates Fort Myer Construction’s ability to construct site work at a school which required a very tight schedule, significant site logistics due to the size of the area, and adjustments around weather conditions.
