MD 410 (EAST WEST HWY) SAFETY & RESURFACING IMPROVEMENTS
Work to restore MD 410 (East West Highway) from Carry Lane to Fenton Street in Montgomery County wrapped up ahead of schedule in October 2015. This project involved full depth patching, micro milling, resurfacing, upgrading curb and gutter, ADA ramps, sidewalks, medians, and driveways. Handicap ramps include detectable warning surfaces which were constructed to meet current ADA standards. In addition, traffic signal improvements including overhead traffic signs, IP-Based video detection cameras, Audible/Tactile Pedestrian Pushbutton Stations (APS) were installed. Finally, our team improved the roadway drainage system spanning the entire project and restriped the roadways.
Project Significance
The Gap-Graded asphalt mix 12.5 MM is typically used for surfacing the Heavy Load Highway Traffic, not in an urban setting. Since SHA found themselves needing to resurface this road every few years, they decided to use a sturdier, higher quality material such as gap-graded asphalt to maximize rutting resistance and durability. Asphalt mix and compaction incentives were achieved due to the smoothness and density of the final product, which result in top-notch pavement performance.
