TYSONS CORNER CENTER TRAILS & ROADWAY
Now rising alongside one of the country’s most famed and dynamic shopping centers is the new Tysons Corner Center – the nation’s signature new mixed-use community. Steps from a dedicated Silver Line Metro Station, the area is surrounded by high rises and an unparalleled retail mix.
This world-class shopping and dining center is now the heart of a new city neighborhood wrapped with panoramic views of nearby Washington, DC. Fort Myer Construction was hired to complete portions of the surrounding site work and roadways. Included in our transportation construction role of this impressive project was building four (4) structural retaining walls, expanding the roadway, mill and overlay of the main adjacent thoroughfares, street modifications, and installation of concrete bus pads. Also included in the complex sequence of construction was traffic signal construction.
Project Significance
The major obstacle faced by the team working at Tysons Corner Center was navigating the existing utilities that conflicted with our work. Our team was able to mitigate this challenge by working directly with the engineer and utility contractors to detect and locate existing utility issues. We helped the engineer redesign the plans to avoid these obstacles and worked with the utility companies to help them relocate the lines.
