SMALL DIAMETER WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT #7
The project consisted of removal and replacement of deteriorated segments of water mains from 4” to 12” within DC Water distribution system. This involved replacement of small diameter valves, pipe, fire hydrants, and house service connections in various Washington, D.C. locations – total of 33 streets. The project also included rehabilitation of disturbed area.
Major items of work included in this contract:
- Installation of 40,000 feet of 12-inch and smaller water mains
- Installation of 30,000 feet of copper water service 2 inch and smaller in public and private space including curb stops /curb stop boxes, meter boxes and in some locations the penetration through building wall and connection to first fitting inside the building including installation of a shut-off valve and pressure reducing valve.
- Permanent pavement restoration.
Materials used included: ductile Iron: 250 LF of 24″; 120 LF of 20″; 120 LF of 16″; 7500 LF of 12″; 31,800 LF of 8″; 3000 LF of 6″
Project Significance
An important aspect of this contract was effective communication with various people and businesses involved. Our team successfully managed close coordination with DC Water, DDOT, residents and local businesses that were affected. The crew leaders implemented project safety at all times, ensuring a safe work place amid highly populated and busy city activities and traffic.
