GW MEMORIAL PARKWAY PAVEMENT RECONSTRUCTION
The scope of work for this project included the rehabilitation and resurfacing of approximately 1.6 miles of the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) from I-395 interchange to the northern entrance of Ronald Reagan National Airport, including exit/entrance ramps. Fort Myer performed asphalt pavement milling, full-depth pavement reconstruction, Superpave asphalt concrete pavement overlay from I-395 (MP 10.81) to pavement change (MP 12.41) southbound, pavement change (MP 2.70 to I-395 (MP 4.30) northbound, replaced steel-backed median guardrail from I-395 to GWMP and installed new traffic counter loops in the ramps entering and exiting the airport.
Project Significance
The Federal Highway Administration is an important client for Fort Myer Construction and we are proud of the service we are able to provide in the metropolitan DC area. This project was within a highly visible part of GWMP and affected those traveling to and from National Airport. Careful traffic control is imperative since lane closures and night work were required. Detours are strategically provided and well-marked when ramps are closed for milling and paving.
