GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
This Green Infrastructure project was comprised of constructing stormwater Green Infrastructure (GI) and Low Impact Development (LID) facilities in several sites within the DC area. These stormwater GI & LID facilities are aimed at reducing stormwater pollutants draining into the natural waters including streams, creeks, and rivers in the region.
Fort Myer was a subcontractor to Capitol Paving on this project. Our team responsibilities included the installation of new porous mix asphalt and hot mix asphalt.
Project Significance
This project was part of DDOT’s initiative to install Green Infrastructure as part of construction projects and retrofit projects to reduce stormwater runoff in more areas of the city. Green Street and Green Alley projects utilize GI techniques that are implemented where watershed and infrastructure improvements are prioritized. The goal of these GI techniques is to construct streets and alleys to capture, store, and infiltrate stormwater to improve the urban environment.
