SOUND WALL REPLACEMENT SW-106 DULLES TOLL ROAD

SOUND WALL REPLACEMENT SW-106 DULLES TOLL ROAD

MWAA procured Fort Myer for this project to replace existing sound wall SW-106 along Dulles Toll Road. This job consisted of sound wall panel replacement for bridge-mounted, retaining wall-mounted, and ground-mounted structures.  On Dulles Access Road heading West from Beulah Rd towards Difficult Run, our crews performed work on steel structures, repaired concrete structures, completed damp proofing, and backfilled for stability and reinforcement.  The estimated removal and replacement totals about 270 bays, consisting of a post on both sides and at least two panels in each bay. Due to site constraints with the existing steep slope between some panels, our team had to perform work from the roadway with a 120 ton rental crane with support from our 80 ton crane. Panel sizes were reduced due to weight considerations while hoisting everything from the toll road in this area. The total length of wall was over 3,000 LF with around 700 total panels. Clearing and grubbing was performed along the panels in addition to turf preparation, seeding, and planting along the roadside.

Project Significance

The entire removal and replacement was completed in 4 months, which is impressive considering the difficulty of this project. Along with safety, maintaining vehicular flow along the Dulles Toll Road is a priority. We make certain work activities are carefully coordinated throughout the life of the project to ensure emergency access is allowed and there is minimal disruption for the traveling public.  Fort Myer Construction retains esteemed structure specialists on staff and can navigate the difficulties that arise in structure projects like this with ease.
