POTOMAC YARDS TRAFFIC SIGNALS
The work covered under this contract involved the upgrade and modifications of 7 existing traffic signals in the Crystal City/Potomac Yard (CCPY) Transitway Project. Also included was street lighting for the intersections as well as pedestrian crossing signalization. Our team installed thermal cameras to monitor traffic volume and CCTV for security. These systems tied into the new bus transitway system. The project was finished with handicap ramps and small amounts of brick paver work.
Project Significance
This project required extensive coordination between our team, Arlington County and the CCPY Transitway Project leaders. Challenging coordination between stakeholders included careful precision around scheduling, communications, meetings, progress, and cooperation.
An unusual circumstance arose when our teams were digging a pole base for a traffic signal pole and came across a large void under the sidewalk and road. Before continuing, this had to be carefully addressed; and our skillful and experienced team was able to avoid what could have been a dangerous sinkhole.
