PARCEL L2 THE YARDS – DC STREETLIGHTS IMPROVEMENTS
This project converts the District’s streetlight bulbs to more reliable and energy efficient light emitting diode (LED) light bulbs. The District has approximately 75,000 lights on streets, alleys, and public spaces. Many of the District’s streetlights currently use energy-inefficient incandescent and high-pressure sodium light bulbs.
Fort Myer is a subcontractor to Power Design and will be responsible for removing existing street light foundations, cable & circuitry, bench lighting and the installation of new DDOT standard street light foundations, concrete encased conduits, and private metered pedestals.
Project Significance
This project modernizes streetlights to include a remote monitoring and control system and expands the District’s broadband Wi-Fi coverage in priority corridors to serve as a platform for other “Smart City” technology, particularly in underserved neighborhoods. These “Smart City” efforts use data and technology to improve the lives of citizens and businesses inhabiting DC by applying digital intelligence to solve public problems and achieve higher quality of life.
