I-395 OVER GWMP BRIDGE REPAIR
Repair of I-395 Northbound, Southbound and H.O.V. bridges over George Washington Memorial Parkway in Arlington, VA. Project scope included milling existing surface asphalt and replacement with rapid set latex modified concrete (LMC) overlay of bridge decks. Type B concrete patching of the existing deck was performed to ensure that the new overlay would bond sufficiently to the substrate surface. Other work included reconstruction of bridge deck joints at abutments, repair of existing historic substructure arches and wingwalls over the GWMP and waterproofing of all repaired surfaces.
Project Significance
Masonry re-pointing efforts required close coordination with the National Park Service to confirm that strict aesthetic details were met. Fort Myer’s masonry professionals worked carefully to ensure their high quality work aligned with the National Park Service requirements. Additionally, much of this work had to be completed at night to allow I-395 to be open to rush hour traffic each morning. Our crews were committed to completing the project during overnight shifts to assure minimal disruption to the traveling public.
