DULLES CONNECTOR 3 BRIDGE SOUND WALLS
Sound walls were constructed on both sides of the Dulles Connector Road/Route 267, between Chain Bridge Road/Route 123 and Interstate 66 (almost four miles) in Fairfax County. Fort Myer was awarded this contract to complete the structure-mounted sound walls parallel to the bridges over Chain Bridge Road, Magarity Road and Pimmit Run.
Work began on Oct. 28, 2013 to install sound wall panels on both the northbound and southbound sides of the three bridges on Chain Bridge Road, Magarity Road and Pimmit Run. Transition panels between the bridge-mounted sound wall and the ground-mounted sound wall were constructed upon installation of the end posts.
Project Significance
The sound walls mitigates noise from Dulles Connector Road traffic and Dulles Metrorail, which has been constructed at-grade in the median and on elevated rail flyovers along the Dulles Connector Road. Fort Myer Construction managed restrictions like time limitations and traffic management on a regular basis. Due to our extensive experience and the structure specialists on staff, we are able to navigate difficulties with minimal disruption to traffic for the traveling public and without delay or unexpected expense to our client.
