DC Water Large Valve Replacement
The project consisted of the replacement of aging and broken valves at various locations throughout Washington, DC. The work involved the replacement of 22 large butterfly valves sizes 48-inches, 36-inches, 30-inches, 34-inches, 24-inches, 20-inches, 16-inches, 12-inches, 8-inches and 6-inches diameter and two 12-inches diameter gate valves critical to the regulation of the flow of water at various locations across the city.
Additionally, the work included refitting valve manholes and casings, and permanent paving restoration at the construction sites.
Project Significance
This ARRA (Stimulus) project showcased Fort Myer’s ability to construct complex underground utilities in multiple locations throughout the District of Columbia. The project involved maintaining pedestrian and vehicular traffic while maintaining the same robust volume of deployed equipment and personnel during an extended period of time.
